7 reasons people are switching to perfume-grade laundry detergent
Why a growing number of shoppers want their laundry to smell like a fine fragrance, and what to look for.

Laundry detergent has smelled more or less the same for decades: "fresh," "clean," "spring." But a growing group of shoppers is treating their wash the way they treat their perfume shelf. Here's what's behind the shift, and what to look for if you're curious.
1.Laundry is the fragrance you wear the longest
You might spray perfume once in the morning. Your sheets, towels and clothes sit against your skin all day and all night. It makes sense that people want that scent to be something they actually chose.
2."Fresh" isn't a scent. Notes are.
Fine fragrance is built in layers: a bright top, a heart that develops, and a base that lingers. Perfume-inspired laundry brands borrow that structure, so a load can open with bergamot and settle into musk.
3.The category already exists, and it's growing on social
Brands like Mozi Wash and Laundry Sauce market cologne- and perfumer-inspired detergents heavily on Meta and TikTok (you can see their active ads in the public Meta Ad Library). The Laundress describes its detergent as "perfumer-crafted fine fragrance." In other words, it's a real shift, not a gimmick.
4.You don't have to trade scent for a cleaner formula
Newer brands pair fragrance with plant-based, enzyme-powered formulas. Ours is being formulated without parabens, phthalates, phosphates, dyes or optical brighteners, and we'll publish the full ingredient list, including fragrance allergens, before launch, as California's Cleaning Product Right to Know Act requires.1
5.Concentrates mean a little goes a long way
Concentrated formulas use a smaller dose per load. Our provisional target is about one tablespoon per load, or 64 loads per 1 L bottle, pending dosage testing.
6.The bottle is part of the experience
Aluminum looks beautiful on an open shelf, and it's widely recyclable where local programs accept it.

7.You can help shape a launch
Eau de Linge is in pre-launch. Our first three fragrances are woody Santal Noir, citrus-musk Bergamot Bain and green Fig Linen. Waitlist members get first access, and we'll ask them which to make next.
